Watermelon 'Sugar Baby' produces delicious fruits of approximately 1.8 kg. It is best grown flat in a greenhouse or cold frame. Insects provide pollination, so ensure they can reach the flowers. Avoid overly wet conditions and excessive fertilization.
- For cultivation both in a greenhouse and in the open ground, you can pre-sow indoors in a tray or pot from
- mid-April to the end of May.
- Do not make the soil too wet.
- The seedlings can then be planted out from mid-May to mid-June.
- Ensure sufficient planting distance.
Harvest: The fruits can be ripe as early as 35 days after fruit set. A dried-up stem is a sign of ripeness. The melons stay fresh on the plant for a long time, so pick them shortly before consumption.
