The 'Hendriks' mangetout variety grows for a long time, with a long harvest period. Hendriks is a very reliable and strong variety. The pods at a slightly older stage are somewhat sweeter than very young pods.
Fresh mangetout, peas, and marrowfat peas are the stars of the vegetable garden. Problems with diseases and pests are rare, which makes it all the more attractive to grow these crops yourself. This crop requires little fertilizer. Two main groups can be distinguished: short, with a length of up to approx. 70 cm (bush types), and tall types (climbing types).
Climbing types, such as the 'Hendriks' mangetout, must be grown along netting. When growing along netting, a row can be sown on both sides of the netting.
For all marrowfat peas, peas, and mangetout, early sowing (March/April) yields the best results; sowing in May and later leads to insufficient pod setting and problems with powdery mildew.
