Summer Carrot 'Nantes 2'

Summer carrot 'Nantes 2' has a sweet taste and a beautiful cylindrical root shape. With wider spacing, the roots will become thicker.

Sow the seeds directly into the ground, preferably on raised beds. Make sure the soil is nicely loosened. The finer the soil, the straighter and longer the root can grow. Maintain a row spacing of 20 cm. Sow the seeds in rows between your fingers. When the seedlings emerge, thin them to a plant spacing of 20x3 cm. Depending on the desired root thickness, a wider or narrower plant spacing can also be used. With a wider plant spacing between the carrots, the roots will grow faster and have more space to develop into thicker carrots. A smaller plant spacing results in thinner carrots.

Problems with carrot rust fly are best solved with insect netting; cover relatively soon after emergence. A simple framework/cage works best to deter the carrot rust fly.
